The short version
Eutopia does not require an account. There is no sign-up, no password, and no email address. If you only play solo games against the computer, nothing whatsoever leaves your device.
Multiplayer is the only part of the game that transmits anything. To let two people play together, the game sends a display name you choose and a randomly generated player ID, along with the state of your island while a match is running.
What the game collects
Display name
The first time you open Eutopia you are asked for a display name. It is shown to your opponent during multiplayer matches so they know who they are playing. You choose this name yourself and can change it at any time in Settings. You are not required to use your real name, and we recommend you do not.
Player ID
The game generates a random identifier on your device the first time it runs. It exists so that if you are disconnected mid-match the game can recognise you and let you rejoin. It is not linked to your Apple ID, your Google account, your email address, your phone number, or any advertising identifier. It cannot be used to identify you outside of Eutopia.
Match data
While a multiplayer game is in progress, the game shares the state of your island with your opponent: the layout of your tiles and buildings, your gold, population and score, and the positions of your boats. This is what makes the opponent minimap work. It is gameplay information, not personal information.
What the game does not collect
- No email address, password, or account of any kind
- No location data
- No contacts, photos, microphone, or camera access
- No analytics or behavioural tracking
- No advertising identifiers, and no advertising in this version of the game
- No payment information
Eutopia does not track you across other apps or websites, and does not share anything with data brokers or advertising networks.
Where the data goes
Multiplayer matches are coordinated through Google Firebase Realtime Database. Your display name, player ID and match data are stored there for the duration of a game so that both players stay in sync. Google processes this data as our service provider; their handling is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections.
How long it is kept
Match data is tied to a room code and exists to run the game. Your display name and player ID are stored on your device and persist until you delete the app.
If you would like any data associated with your player ID removed from our servers, email us at the address below and we will remove it.
Children
Eutopia is rated suitable for all ages and contains nothing intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the display name is typed by the player and shown to their opponent, we ask that children use a nickname rather than their real name. Parents who would like a name changed or removed may contact us.
A note on display names. Anything you type as your display name will be visible to the person you play against. Please do not enter your full name, your address, your school, or anything else you would not want a stranger to see.
Your choices
- Play solo only, and nothing is transmitted at all
- Change your display name at any time in Settings
- Delete the app to remove your display name and player ID from your device
- Email us to request removal of server-side data
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a revised date. Material changes affecting how data is handled will also be noted in the app's release notes.
