Agreement
By downloading or playing What The Heck Is That? you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the game. It is published by Tartan Studios, an independent developer.
Your licence to play
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and play the game on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial enjoyment.
You agree not to reverse engineer, decompile, modify, or create derivative works from the game, nor to redistribute or resell it, except where such restrictions are prohibited by law.
Leaderboard conduct
The Daily Challenge leaderboard shows the display name you have chosen alongside your score, publicly, to other players. When taking part you agree that you will not:
- Use a display name that is obscene, hateful, harassing, or impersonates another person
- Use a display name containing personal information about yourself or anyone else
- Submit scores by any means other than genuinely playing the game
- Attempt to access, interfere with, or overload the game's servers
We may remove a display name, remove a score, or block access to the leaderboard if these terms are breached.
Your name is public. Whatever you enter as your display name can be seen by every other player on the daily leaderboard. Choose a nickname, not your real name.
Advertising
The game is free and supported by advertising served through Google AdMob. An advert is shown at the end of a game, and you may optionally choose to watch an advert in exchange for extra time on a round. Watching the optional advert is always your choice and never required to continue playing.
We do not control which specific adverts are shown. Concerns about a particular advert can be sent to the address below.
Availability
The Daily Challenge, the leaderboard, and the images used in the game depend on an internet connection and on third-party services we do not control. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, and we may change, suspend, or discontinue online features at any time.
Updates
We may issue updates that change, add, or remove features and content. Some updates are delivered automatically when the game starts. Continuing to play after an update means you accept these terms as they then stand.
Purchases
This version of the game is free and contains no in-app purchases. If purchases are introduced in a future version, they will be handled by the App Store, and Apple's refund policies will apply.
Intellectual property
The game, including its code, artwork, audio, and name, is the property of Tartan Studios and is protected by copyright.
The photographs used as puzzles come largely from Wikimedia Commons and remain the property of their respective authors, used under the Creative Commons licences those authors chose. Every image is credited inside the app under Settings, then Image Credits. If you are the author of an image and would like it removed, contact us and we will do so.
No warranty
The game is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Tartan Studios will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of or inability to use the game. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Privacy
Our handling of data is described in the What The Heck Is That? Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The current version will always be posted on this page with a revised date.
